Lenalidomide is this immune system stuff that helps with multiple myeloma and those blood cell mess-ups called myelodysplastic syndromes. It kind of slows down both the immune cells and the cancer cells from growing out of control. The pills come in different sizes, from 2.5 mg all the way up to 25 mg.
You’re supposed to take one 25 mg pill a day for 21 days out of every 28 days. Every pack is made up of 21 pills, enough for one full cycle. The way it works is by messing with these cytokines, which are like tiny messengers that tell cells what to do, especially in the immune and blood-making cells.
It also messes with making immunoglobulins, which can cause the immune system to weaken a bit. Now, you should know that this stuff isn’t good for people who are allergic to it, had a bone marrow transplant, or are sensitive to mannitol. Side effects can include low platelet counts, anemia, and a higher risk of infections.
