Venetoclax is a drug used to help treat both chronic lymphocytic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. The way it works is by keeping the BCL-2 protein from doing its job, which the cancer cells need to live. This actually makes them die, like they’re supposed to.
These tablets come in sizes of 10mg, 50mg, and 100mg, but for CLL, you’re typically supposed to take up to 400mg of it every day with your meal. It’s best taken with food to help your body take in the medicine properly. Every tablet has a coating so the stuff inside stays good until you need it, and they come in bottles of 120.
For CLL, you start off on a little bit and then gradually get up to the 400mg dose once a day that keeps the disease under control.
