Tepotinib is an inhibitor of the MET protein. It’s specifically used for people with a certain type of lung cancer, NSCLC, that has a specific mutation called MET exon 14 skipping. It goes after the MET signaling process and blocks it.
It’s in the form of these 225 mg tablets, but you’re supposed to take 450 mg of it, once a day with food. The tablets come in bottles with 30 of them. Tepotinib’s action is to inhibit MET, a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) known to be overexpressed in certain cancer types, thereby interfering with the growth and progression of these tumors.
It works by sticking to the ATP-binding part of the MET tyrosine kinase, which stops the phosphorylation of other proteins involved in cell survival, growth, and spreading of the cancer. By keeping MET busy, tepotinib tries to slow down or stop the growth of tumor cells in people with NSCLC that have the MET exon 14 skipping mutation.
