Vigabatrin is a medication used to treat hard-to-control epilepsy and a type of seizure called infantile spasms. It works by stopping something called GABA transaminase, which in turn boosts the amount of GABA, a brain chemical, in your head. It comes as 500 mg tablets or in a powdered form.
You might take it from 1 to 3 grams a day, split up into a few doses. Each bottle has 100 tablets. The primary mechanism of action involves enhancing the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which plays a crucial role in regulating the excitability of neurons.
You can swallow the tablets, but the powder can be mixed with your food. The amount you take might change based on how you feel and how well it works. It might not show up for a few weeks.
You might feel tired, a bit sleepy, or have a wobbly feeling as side effects. It’s really important to take it just like your doctor says, so you don’t have any bad reactions or problems.
