Venetoclax is a specialized treatment for two types of cancer: CLL and AML. It is classified as a BCL-2 inhibitor, working by blocking the function of the BCL-2 protein, which is known to contribute to the survival of cancer cells. It makes the cancer cells commit suicide, which helps get rid of them.
It comes in pill form, with three different strengths: 10, 50, and 100 milligrams. For CLL patients, you start with a small amount and gradually build up to taking 400 mg a day with meals. One bottle has 120 pills, enough for a full month of the maintenance dose treatment.
