This medication, called selpercatinib, is made to treat cancers with RET mutations. It’s especially good for certain lung cancers and thyroid cancers with those mutations. Selpercatinib is part of a group of drugs called selective RET inhibitors.
It works by stopping a protein called RET kinase that helps cancer cells grow. You can get selpercatinib in doses of 40 mg or 80 mg. The usual amount is 160 mg, and that means taking two 80 mg capsules or four 40 mg ones, twice a day.
You can take selpercatinib with or without eating. The medication comes in bottles with 60 capsules inside. It’s really important to take it the right way to make sure it works well and doesn’t cause too many problems.
