Venetoclax is a pill that’s used to treat two types of cancer: chronic lymphocytic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. It’s a BCL-2 inhibitor, which is a fancy way of saying it blocks a protein that cancer cells use. It works by stopping a protein called BCL-2, which makes cancer cells die off.
You can get it in 10 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg tablets. For CLL, you usually start with 20 mg twice a day and then might go up to 300 mg once a day. If you need it, you might eventually take up to 400 mg a day, but it’s best with food so it absorbs better.
Each bottle has 120 tablets. That’s usually enough for a month if you’re taking 400 mg a day. It’s super important to follow your doctor’s dosing advice, because everyone’s different.
