Erlotinib is mainly used to treat lung cancer and pancreatic cancer in people who have EGFR mutations. Erlotinib stops the EGFR pathway, which affects how cells grow and divide. You can get it in three strengths—25 mg, 100 mg, and 150 mg—each in a coated tablet form.
For adults, the usual dose is 150 mg, taken once a day on an empty stomach. Each bottle comes with 30 tablets. Erlotinib is one of those ‘targeted therapy’ drugs.
It goes after cancer cells and tries to keep healthy cells safe. You might get diarrhea, a rash, or feel sick as a side effect. Make sure you follow the doctor’s instructions and understand the risks and benefits when you’re taking this medication.
