Ponatinib is used to treat certain types of. It’s good for CML, and Ph acute lymphoblastic leukemia too, especially for people who’ve been treated with other types of kinase inhibitors and haven’t responded. It’s even effective for some who have T315I mutations.
Ponatinib is a strong and special inhibitor. It stops several important things from doing their thing like BCR-ABL (even the bad T315I ones), PDGFR (Beta and Gamma types), Kit, FLT3 ITD, and the family of Src Kinases. You take this medication by mouth and it comes in tablet form.
There’s the 15mg stuff and the more potent 45mg tabs. The usual dose is 45 mg a day, and you don’t have to worry about eating or not before you take it. The tablets come in a bottle with 30 of them.
Results show that it’s really good for patients who haven’t had luck with previous kinase inhibitors. It helps fight back against that stubborn resistance by actually working on the bad stuff and reducing that unwanted BCR-ABL activity.
