Gilteritinib is a FLT3 inhibitor. It’s mainly used for AML that comes back or doesn’t respond to treatment when it has FLT3 mutations. It’s made to block a protein called FLT3 kinase, which is known to help cancer cells grow.
You take these in tablet form at 120 mg each day, with the little pills coated, taken by mouth. You get them in a bottle with 90 of these tablets in total. They need to be taken whole.
Don’t split, chew, or crush them. Just make sure you do exactly what your doc tells you about how much and when to take it. This stuff is a targeted therapy that was actually made to help folks with AML that has FLT3 stuff going on who haven’t worked well on other treatments.
It falls under the category of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors or TKIs, meant to attack the cancer-growing cells specifically.
