Afatinib is a type of inhibitor that targets the EGFR and HER2 proteins. It’s used for a certain type of lung cancer that has specific changes in the EGFR gene, like deletions in exon 19 or a mutation called L858R in exon 21. It stops the EGFR from sending out signals.
The tablets come in three different strengths—20 mg, 30 mg, and 40 mg. The usual dose is 40 mg taken every day. The pills have a coating and need to be taken on an empty stomach.
They come in bottles with 30 tablets in each one.
