Alectinib is a targeted therapy that’s used to treat a specific type of lung cancer called ALK-positive metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. It works by keeping the ALK protein, which is a receptor that can cause cancer cells to grow and live longer when it’s changed, under control. You can get Alectinib in capsule form, and each one has 150 mg of the stuff that makes it work.
You’re supposed to take 600 mg twice a day, which is four capsules, and eat something with it to help it absorb better. It comes in bottles with 240 capsules each, which is a whole month’s worth of the recommended dose for someone. Doctors usually tell patients to keep taking alectinib until it stops working or the side effects get too bad.
