Valganciclovir is an antiviral that’s used to treat CMV retinitis and prevent it in transplant patients. It works by stopping the virus from making DNA. It’s in tablet form, with each being 450 mg.
Adults usually take 900 mg once or twice a day with meals. You’ve got to take these tablets whole. Mostly, you’re supposed to take it on an empty stomach, but if your stomach gets wonky, you can have it with food.
And make sure to wash it down with a whole glass of water, to keep your esophagus safe. The medicine comes in bottles, with each one having 60 tablets.
