Lenalidomide is used to treat multiple myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes. It’s an immunomodulator, which is a fancy way of saying it helps control the immune system. It changes how the immune system and cancer cells grow.
You can get Lenalidomide in capsules, from 2.5 mg all the way up to 25 mg. The usual dose is 25 mg, taken every day from day 1 to day 21 in a 28-day period. Each bottle has 21 capsules in it.
It works by tweaking the immune system and stopping something called proteasome to make tumor antigens pile up, which can cause cancer cells to die. You need to take the capsules whole, with water, don’t break or crush them unless your doc says it’s okay. Make sure you stick to your dose and tell your healthcare provider if you notice any side effects.
Lenalidomide can interact with other drugs, supplements, and some foods, so it’s important to be aware of that. You really need to read up on all the details in the Prescribing Information that comes with the drug.
