Mavacamten is used to treat a type of heart condition called obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It helps to lower the strength of the heartbeat. You can get Mavacamten in different strengths—2.5, 5, 10, and 15 milligrams.
Usually, people start with 5 mg, taken once each day, and the dose might be changed if needed. The Mavacamten comes in bottles, each with 30 capsules. Mavacamten is the main part of the medicine that’s meant to help the heart work better in people with a certain kind of heart condition.
It does this by stopping something called cardiac myosin from working too much. This protein is overactive in the kind of heart disease we’re talking about, causing the heart muscle to get thicker and blocking blood flow out of the heart. That can cause some not-so-nice symptoms, like chest pain, feeling lightheaded, and having trouble breathing.
Mavacamten tries to relax that thick heart muscle, which can help ease symptoms and may also keep things from getting worse.
