Valganciclovir is used to treat CMV retinitis and prevent CMV disease in people who’ve had a stem cell transplant and are on immune-suppressing drugs. It stops the virus from making its DNA, which messes up how the virus replicates and makes more of itself. You can get Valganciclovir in tablets that have a film coating and each one has 450 mg of the stuff.
For adults and kids 12 and up with good kidney function, the usual dose is 900 mg, and you can take it once or twice a day, with or without food, based on what your doc tells you. These tablets come in bottles with 60 of them in each.
